  1. Solution Preview

I created a cohesive visual system for Voice Point and applied it to high-fidelity web and mobile mockups. These designs provide conference participants with easy access to educational and career resources, supporting their growth in voiceover and voice acting.

  1. Ideation

Recognizing Opportunity

As a beginner in VO/VA, I found it hard to break into the industry, as success often seemed to depend on connections or luck. Many others shared this experience, making me wonder if there could be an easier way for newcomers. I believed the answer was to create more networking opportunities and a central hub for career prospects—a conference designed for this purpose.

  1. Persona Creation

To ensure a human-centered design approach, I created a persona based on insights gathered from interviews and anecdotal sources. This reflect the real-world experiences of others, helping to inform and guide my work.

Sarah, the Aspiring Voice Actress

Sarah, the Aspiring Voice Actress

Sarah has always been passionate about acting and storytelling. Growing up, she loved performing in school plays and experimenting with different voices and accents for fun. Over the past few years, she’s developed a strong interest in voice acting and has been trying to break into the industry. However, without formal training or industry connections, she feels stuck and unsure of how to move forward.

Over the past few years, she’s developed a strong interest in voice acting and has been trying to break into the industry. However, without formal training or industry connections, she feels stuck and unsure of how to move forward.

Pain Points
  • Lack of Guidance: Sarah finds it difficult to know what skills to prioritize or where to find reliable resources for learning.

  • Limited Access to Training: Voice acting workshops and courses are often expensive or located in areas she can’t easily access.

  • Difficulty Finding Opportunities: She struggles to find auditions suited to beginners and feels unprepared to compete with experienced voice actors.

Motivations
  • Creativity and Self-Expression: Sarah is drawn to the freedom voice acting offers to portray diverse characters and tell stories.

  • Career Change Potential: She’s excited by the idea of transitioning from her current job to a creative career she’s passionate about.

  • Sense of Community: She wants to feel connected to others in the industry and to know she’s not alone in facing the challenges of an aspiring voice actress.

Commonalities + Patterns

Existing conferences brought together passionate and knowledgeable individuals, yet the information presented on their websites often lacked a systematic structure and was not always up-to-date.

Understanding my personas' needs and observing the current state of VO/VA conferences enabled me to define a design goal and requirements.

  1. Goals + Requirements

Create a web and mobile resource to promote the VO / VA industry, fostering quality education and a strong sense of community.

Requirements
  • Distinct Branding - Develop a brand that captures and communicates the conference's unique personality and mission.

  • Helpful UX - Design an intuitive, all-encompassing user experience that enables users to seamlessly discover and access resources for education, career development, and community engagement.

  1. Brand Development

I collected many references in order to develop the brand’s character.

I aimed to create a brand that stands out and embodies the creative spirit of the VO/VA industry. I selected the following traits to shape the brand's personality:

  • Rebellious

  • Exciting

  • Purposeful

  • Purposeful

I created sketches and explored several design iterations before arriving at the final logo.

I created a high-contrast color palette that captures and emphasizes the brand’s bold, dynamic personality.

I designed a range of text styles tailored to various contexts across both mobile and web platforms, primarily using the Bebas Neue and Arial typefaces.

  1. Final Designs - Web

I designed this page to be intentionally eye-catching, aiming to capture the core values of Voice Point:

  • Creativity: A welcoming space for bold ideas and self-expression, creativity is celebrated.

  • Reliability: A dependable source of information, always current and practical.

  • Connectivity: Support is readily available; someone is always ready to help you.

The main menu offers navigation to pages with a variety of career and educational resources.

Conference participants have the opportunity to receive feedback on their VO/VA work from fellow community members through the Reel Review page.

  1. Final Designs - Mobile

I tailored the web designs for mobile to ensure an optimized, seamless user experience across devices.

  1. Reflection

This project was a major step in my growth as a designer and creative thinker. I gained invaluable insights into the impact of strong branding on user experience, fundamentally transforming my approach to design. I now understand how to better integrate branding and design systems into both personal and professional projects.

I’m especially grateful to my instructor, Anita Zeppetelli, for her thoughtful feedback and guidance throughout the project. My thanks also go out to my classmates in the Experiencing Brands Through Interaction Design course at SVA for their support and encouragement along the way.
